Designed by architect Jean Tarade, the city's fortifications inspector under Louis XIV, the former Suzzoni Barracks was built from 1704, then modified and extended in 1888.
Used first as an artillery school, it later housed non-commissioned officers until 2010. Listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, this building remains the sole surviving example of the four large barracks erected at the beginning of the XVIIIth century.
Midway between Colmar and Freiburg, in the immediate vicinity of Switzerland and Germany, the Haut-Rhin is a region that benefits, owing to its border location, from strong economic and cultural activity. A dynamic employment area, the Haut-Rhin is popular with lovers of sport and nature for its magnificent regional natural parks (Ballon des Vosges, Petite Camargue).
