The town of Riom has undertaken major works to develop its cultural hub. With a view to rehabilitating the old to create the new, a convent of the Genovefans as well as a large space named the Pré Madame have been redeveloped to house the Jardins de la Culture. These new facilities bring together the media library, a school of music and sculpture, an exhibition space, a plant garden and a mineral garden.
Behind a massive door, the musée Mandet houses a collection of fine arts and decorative arts. There is also a fine gallery dedicated to contemporary goldsmithing. Temporary exhibitions blend skilfully with the permanent display, filling the whole space of the museum.
The musée régional d’Auvergne houses an interesting ethnological collection and helps visitors better understand the everyday life of the people of Auvergne through all eras, their craft and agricultural work, their rites and customs, and their domestic life.
