NÎMES: THE FRENCH ROME The city of Nîmes was remarkably built around and with its Roman monuments. It is this ancient architecture, developed over the centuries, that has given the city its identity, its personality and its uniqueness, conferring upon it an exceptional universal value. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Maison Saint Castor is located at 9, rue Saint Castor, in the heart of Nîmes city centre, close to various shops and boutiques. Near numerous museums such as the Musée du Vieux Nîmes or the Natural History and Prehistory Museum of Nîmes. The remarkable location of Maison Saint Castor provides easy access to all necessary amenities: banks, restaurants, museums, supermarkets, shops and public transport are within walking distance. The city's most important tourist sites, such as the Arena of Nîmes and the Maison Carrée, are also 5 minutes' walk away. LA MAISON SAINT CASTOR The former presbytery is located in the heart of medieval Nîmes, in the former episcopal borough in the immediate vicinity of Saint Castor Cathedral, in the district then known as Corcomaire, marked by the omnipresence of commerce. This former town house, built by a wealthy Nîmes merchant, a certain Jean de Bourges, at the very beginning of the XVIIth century, only became a presbytery in 1746. The entrance to this emblematic house, of Renaissance inspiration, is framed by two pairs of Ionic columns designed like a portico projecting onto the street. The house was acquired by the town in 1746 to serve as the presbytery for the cathedral's priest. The project provides for the restoration of the house into 11 apartments ranging from T1 to T4, with areas of 29.26 m² to 111,70 m², and 9 storage cellars. Most of the major rooms will be preserved in their spatial integrity. Remarkable decorative features such as the fireplaces, trumeaux, gypseries and doors will be preserved and restored.
